There are many different types of depression and causes for it. This state of being affects more than 10 million Americans and can be defined as a constant state of sadness that lasts anywhere from a few hours to months or more. Depression becomes a problem when it affects the individual on a physical as well as mental level.
Types of Depression
The key to effectively treating depression is to figure out exactly what type the sufferer is plagued with. There are many faces of this disorder, but the three types listed below are the most diagnosed:
• Natural Depression: Natural depression is temporary and it usually occurs in the event of sudden loss, negative changes or disappointment. The sufferer will return to their normal state after the situation is over or resolved.
• Chronic Depression: Dysthymia is the type of depression that lasts for one year or longer. The individual can still perform tasks in a normal way but he or she will appear to be constantly unhappy.
• Major Depression: This type of depression drastically affects the person’s life both physically and mentally. The person suffering from major depression does not function normally without experiencing harmful symptoms.

Pinpointing symptoms of depression in women is more common because any type of this disorder tends to affect women more than men, below are some common depression symptoms in women:
• Constant sadness
• Insomnia
• Loss of interest
• Low energy
• Thoughts of suicide
• Worthless feeling

Effective treatment for depression symptoms in women as well as men depends on the person and the type of depression he or she is dealing with, below are a few treatment options:
•Therapy which includes talking therapy, hormone replacement therapy and electroconvulsive therapy
