Just like anything worth having, a happy successful marriage takes work. There are ups and downs, lefts and you know she’s rights. Sometimes marriages can hit rough patches and when you are fighting with your best friend, you really don’t know where to go for help. Your jaded friends only see the bad in relationships, while others never know what they are talking about. This makes finding good marriage advice like finding the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. There is good news though; there are people out there that can guide you in the right direction.
If you are a member of a church, talk to a clergyman about your situation. While they may or may not have relationship experience, they can guide you in making faith-based decisions. Many clergymen are even trained as counselors and have expertise in this area. If nothing else, it is good to have a positive supports system like this.
If you know a couple that has been together for a long time, like your grandparents or family friends, they can be a wealth of knowledge as well. They can tell you through personal experience what worked for them and what didn’t. They will most likely understand any concerns or problems that you have, as they too, probably faced similar circumstances at one time. With age comes wisdom, and you can be sure that they will have some sage advice.
Taking to the Internet may be scary to some, but it may also be just what you need. Find a safe and secure online community where people just like you go to communicate and exchange advice. You may be surprised how welcome you are, and how supportive people just like you can be. Many of the people you meet will most likely have gone through, or are going through, the same thing that you are.
These are just a few examples of the plethora of places that you can go to for safe and substantial marriage advice. Never be afraid to ask for advice, it may mean the difference between a happy marriage and a messy divorce. Marriage isn’t always easy, but if you find the right adviser they may show you that the rainbow is ultimately more beautiful than the pot of gold ever could be.
